Thurrock Council approve 173 much-needed new homes

The former Culver Centre and Culver Field will be developed to include a mix of one and two bedroom apartments and two and three bedroom houses. The four and a half hectare site will also feature improved public open space, communal amenity space, and cycle parking.

Cllr Luke Spillman, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “The development of new homes not only provides safe and affordable places to live but also creates opportunities through local job creation, supports first time buyers, and has many other wider community benefits including improved lighting and better quality open space.”

Cllr Mark Coxshall, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Strategic Planning and External Relationships, added: “Providing the right infrastructure and good quality, sustainable and affordable housing is key to the wider growth across the borough. It enables residents who live, work and play in Thurrock to live healthy, happy and prosperous lives. With unique opportunities such as the Thames Freeport on our doorstep, developments such as this will be key in helping residents take advantage of the countless benefits including exciting vocational training and new job opportunities.”

Part of the site was formerly home to a Pupil Referral Unit which was relocated in 2015 and the buildings were demolished in 2017. With the site no longer required for educational use, it was identified as a location for much-needed new homes.
