12 February 2024

Fourteen Essex Awards 2023 winners were announced across twelve categories on 2 November 2023, at an evening ceremony held in association with Birketts. Four case studies have been created about the winner’s journey and thoughts. This is one of four.

Gemma Gallagher, Head of Marketing and Partnerships at Kind and Company (Builders) talks about their Limited Small Housing Schemes (1 – 24 homes) Award win. Joining her is Cherelle Idowu, Marketing Manager (North Counties), Peabody as she discusses their Medium Housing Schemes (25 – 100 homes) Award, sponsored by Qualis Group, win.

Gemma begins:

“At Kind, we think the awards are a great way to showcase some of the most prestigious developments being built in the region and it is a great opportunity to get together and celebrate the talent we have in Essex.”

She admits it’s a good way to help raise their profile and potentially gain support for future projects or initiatives. Gemma explains that in recent years, Kind and Company have predominantly been building inside the M25 and London-centric, however, the present is a time of opportunity and growth in Essex and they, “would be delighted to engage more with clients in Essex to meet the region’s housing needs”, Describing the industry as “full of opportunity, growth and excitement”.

Gemma shares, “We are looking forward to starting a project in the new year for Essex County Council, delivering a complex project on the Old Essex Hospital Site in Colchester. We are delighted to be working with the client on finalising the details for this scheme and look forward to starting on-site in the new year.”

Cherelle joins in to shine a light on Peabody’s recently launched work development Bardfield Meadows in Finchingfield. Based on the positive response to the development, she agrees with Gemma that the housing industry is growing calling it “dynamic, diverse and evolving”.

Speaking specifically about the awards she says she was impressed by the “pleasant straightforward process” and reflects on their win, “Winning the award gave us a great sense of achievement as well as a sense of acknowledgement and motivation within Peabody.

“We pride ourselves in having a proud legacy of helping generations of homebuyers and residents find their place in thriving neighbourhoods, communities and homes for over 160 years and this award serves as a powerful motivator for continued excellence as it provides Peabody with the recognition, validation and credibility for our accomplishments.”

Gemma offers a call out to smaller businesses:

“The application is not too complex to respond to which is perfect for SMEs, as smaller business’ resources can be limited. Go for it!”
